Envirosax Giveaway (closed)

Planet Green by Envirosax

Tomorrow is Earth Day. In our house, it’s the environmental equivalent of New Year’s Day considering how many resolutions/pledges we make to be greener.

Over the last few years, we’ve tried a few things, from buying a meat share from a nearby farm to growing many of our own vegetables to using greener cleaning products. After all, Pinterest says there’s nothing vinegar can’t do!

A couple of months ago, our garbage collector added a weekly pickup for curbside recycling. I was super excited when they dropped off our recycling bin – it was the same size as our garbage can!

And we’ve been filling it up every single week. The amount of junk mail we get in this neighborhood is borderline disturbing.

And if you’ve been around here for more than 5 seconds, you know that one of my favorite “let’s be a little greener” things is Envirosax. No more fighting for space under the kitchen sink with that plastic bag crammed full of more plastic bags, the one you keep telling yourself that you’ll recycle “next time.”

Want a chance to win a set of your very own? Simply answer this question in the comments below: What is your current “be greener” goal?

We’re (ahem, I am) going to be trying more of those cleaning tips I’ve seen on Pinterest.

Update: The winner is Meighan with comment #73. Thanks for sharing all of your goals, it has given us plenty of great ideas!

You can earn up to 4 extra entries by:
– Leaving a separate comment below that you follow us on Twitter.
– Leaving a separate comment below that you like us on Facebook.
– Leaving a separate comment below that you subscribe to our RSS feed.
– Leaving a separate comment below that you subscribe or our email newsletter.

Good luck!

The fine print:
– Maximum of five (5) entries per person.
– Giveaway ends at 11:59pm (Texas time!) on 4/27.

– Winners will receive a 5-piece set of Envirosax in style Planet Green (maximum retail value of prize = $30).
– Prize must be claimed within 7 days or it will be forfeited.
– If the winning comment is an “extra entry” comment, it will be subject to verification.

We do our best to be green, which literally means lugging our recycling to the best friends house 1 block over since our community doesn’t recycling. Alas, we still buy mass produced 2 gallons at a time, milk from Costco. I would like to change that habit, but 1st I need to get over the sticker shock and find a way to make it just as convenient as our old habits. I mean I have no problem buying meat and vegetables at the price that market dictates so the growers and producers can make a living wage and threat their animals and land with the respect. But the milk I balk at, why or why?

I’ve been trying to cut back on meat and dairy. Trying to eat a plant based whole foods diet after growing up in cattle country (Montana) has been difficult, but even limiting my consumption has helped me feel better. Cows are little land hogs, and the residual effects on the earth due to their sheer numbers to keep fast food companies and carnivores is staggering. I love steak, roast and burgers but it’s become our primary food source as Americans and I wanted to get back to the “Farm” and enjoy fruits, vegetables, and grains.

  • In our house, we always recycle, use re-usable grocery bags, and reusable lunch and snack containers. Would like to do much more!

  • Once the hubs and I move into our house, I am going to recycle. I will go out and buy bins for everything and commit to taking them to be recycled. Right now things are a bit hectic so it isn’t feasible. But I will do this, I won’t let myself get discouraged!!

I recycle even though I have to drop off my own materials 80 miles away. I haven’t taken a plastic bag from a grocery store in years, and am just NOW running out of plastic bags from all I had saved before. I recently just started reusing my wine bottles for candle crafts and decorations! Fun project.

  • I have a few things I am working on… one of which is switching to primarily re-usable bags (I want paper occasionally to clean out litter boxes!). Another one I’m working on is making homemade cleaning products. Not only is it better for the environment, but with a mobile child now, he’s getting in to everything, especially with his mouth, so the less chemicals around him the better!

My “greener” goal is to switch all of my lightbulbs to CFLs or LEDs.

  • Using my Camelbak and Tervis for water instead of water bottles! I also use the energy saving lightbulbs, and conserve water when possible. I try to recycle, but it is not easy where I live because you have to transport your recycling to a part of town I never visit, but I do recycle at work because my job is big into sustainability initiatives.

My goal is to recycle, use reusable bags, and make homemade cleaners and weed killer for the yard and garden. I shop at farmer’s markets and would like to start composting.

We use cloth diapers and and plan to use cloth training pants when we get to that stage. We also preserve a lot of our own produce.
