Nailed It Fridays: Braided Stuffed Bread Thingy

in Disasters & Failures & Oopses

My husband is the one who braids our daughter’s hair. And that stuffed bread up there explains why.

Things always look so easy on Pinterest. Like how those DIY shows make painting your entire house look so quick and easy. But sometimes, even a step-by-step pic-torial doesn’t help when braiding is your kryptonite.

I’ll make it again next week because we ate the entire thing for dinner 😳 – the filling was really good and only uses 3 ingredients (pesto, artichokes, and cheese).

  • Yea that sounds amazing, even in messy form

  • It still looks tasty to me!

I learned this trick from my fiancee. Fold one side completely over and then tuck the other side in and under the folded side. Still get the braided look without the weaving nonsense.

  • Haha if the boyfriend tried to braid something, it wouldn’t come out nearly as good as this!

  • It doesn’t look that bad. The couple braids I have made all had chicken… I love it that yours is vegetarian and your family really enjoyed it.

  • It looks/sounds tasty. I can’t braid [hair] worth a darn, but the stuffed braids using puff pastry usually are no prob, and it doesn’t look like yours is assembled differently. I bet it’s the yeasty bread, it looks like there was a rise that went awry. Was this made from a laminated dough or regular bread?

    • Yep, it was the yeasty bread. I was going to make a rolled/stuffed baguette but then decided to make it fancy because I saw something on Pinterest at the last minute 🙂

  • I bet it was still tasty!

  • YUM! I think it looks great, idk what you’re talkin about 😛

  • Yum-Love easy and good!

  • I will teach you how to braid if you come over with the ingredients to make this. Deal?

  • This sounds amazing!

  • I’m a terrible braider too – any daughters I have in the future are doomed in that respect, but you give me hope that my husband has a secret talent just waiting to be uncovered. This sounds amazing!

  • The filling sounds delicious!

I’d just call it a rustic braid and act as though the results were intended. Or maybe the skilled braider husband could help with the plait next time. 😛

  • Haha, love it! We can’t all be mini Marthas, but it doesn’t have to look perfect to taste perfect. Glad you enjoyed it anyway!

  • I like that it’s not perfectly braided. Can’t wait for the recipe! 🙂

  • I love that you posted this. Way to keep it real! So glad it turned out to be tasty. When it’s all sliced up, nobody can tell the difference anyway, right?

I love your honesty! Regardless of the cracks it’s gorgeous and makes me appreciate that even though you are a blogger (who rocks!) you still keep it real for those of us who do not make perfect dishes. It’s one of the reasons I keep coming back. Thank you. 🙂

  • Ha! I love that you posted this! It doesn’t really look like a disaster OR a failure though – especially if you ate the whole thing for dinner. Sounds perfect. I think this is when you slice it and only show us a portion of the whole!!

This looks absolutely amazing (especially with such a unique take on braiding 🙂 ), but where’s the recipe??

  • I know, those DIY tutorials make me feel so adventurous, They seem so easy to make that before you actually get started and have no clue how to get out of it. Been there done that LOL
The filling sounds delicious, can’t wait for you to share the recipe
