Damage control

I noticed something during the baking (holiday) season – the majority of recipes I made called for cream cheese. It wasn’t like I didn’t have enough, but once you start to add it up, a block here, two blocks there – good grief! I used nearly 10 pounds of cream cheese between Thanksgiving and New Year’s.

Between Oreo Truffles, pumpkin squares, raspberry bars and let’s not forget the huge blob of cream cheese that I fashioned into a fabulous looking Houston Texans logo and covered in raspberry chipotle sauce…

So you were good… you only had one slice of pumpkin pie for dessert and even passed on that lovely bowl of freshly whipped cream. What’s that gonna set you back? According to Newsweek, try 81 minutes of walking. 81 minutes. As in 1 hour and 21 minutes of walking. Just to break even on that once slice of pie you had for dessert.

A cup of eggnog – 88 minutes; pecan pie – 130 minutes; 2 cookies – 31 minutes… Those 4 items together equal nearly two week’s worth of regular workouts for me. The 40-ish days between Thanksgiving and New Year’s must be the unhealthiest stretch of days of the year. It’s no wonder that so many include weight-loss as a New Year’s Resolution!
