Kitchenaid Mixer Giveaway

in Giveaways

KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer, Onyx

It’s shiny. Sleek and shiny. Shiny. And since most of you aren’t close enough to come by and help us finish off a Peanut Butter Cup Tart or taste-test our latest brew experiment (a Blue Moon knockoff), it’s the second best way we know to thank you for making our little project so fun.

We’ve recently redesigned the site to be more functional and we’re almost finished with the Recipe Index so that every single recipe is easy to see and find. And even better – there will be chances to grab some fun foodie swag!

We’ve met some amazing people – photographers, bloggers, cookers, cakers, and writers over the last nearly 5 years. I still get just as excited when we get a comment today as I did the day we broke double-digits on page views back in late 2006 – it was a very exciting record of 11! So we say “thank you” with some of that fun foodie swag: a sleek and shiny KitchenAid 5qt Artisan Stand Mixer (Onyx).

To enter, simply leave a comment on this post and tell us: What will be the first thing you’d bake with a new mixer?
– One comment per person.
– (Optional) You can earn two extra entries by:

    – Leaving an additional comment saying that you’ve liked us on Facebook
    – Leaving an additional comment saying that you’ve followed us on Twitter

– Giveaway runs through 11:59pm (Texas time!) Saturday, 4/16.
– Winner will be selected by one of those cold, soulless, unfeeling random number generator thingies on Sunday and announced here.
– Due to freight limitations, prize can only be shipped within North America.

Best of luck!
Jason & Shawnda

Oh, which recipe to start with? My stand mixer broke, and I’ve been having to use a hand held one for the past couple of months (multiple extremely expensive misc expenses have kept me from being able to purchase a new mixer). I would say a very time consuming, but well worth it, pound cake recipe that was handed down to me by my great-grandmother. They must have had arm muscles like Popeye back then! 🙂

  • Liesel

Sugar cookies!! Royal icing is a pain by hand.

  • Amaretto chocolate cake. I had to make this almost a dozen times before I got the recipe right. One of those utterly chocolate dense cakes that falls to pieces at the touch of a knife. Evil and yet so good 🙂

What a great giveaway! Thank you. If I won, I would make these cookies as soon as I got the stand…

    Giant Chewy Lemon Sugar Cookies
    Makes about 20 cookies

    Ingredients
    2 ¼ cups flour
    ½ teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1 cup (2 sticks) butter
    1 cup sugar
    zest of 1 lemon
    1 egg
1/3 cup coarse sugar (plain, granulated sugar works if it’s all you have)

    Instructions
    1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
    2. Sift the flour, salt and baking soda together.
    3. Cream the butter, 1 cup of sugar and lemon zest until very smooth. Add the egg and continue to beat until fluffy. Pour in the dry ingredients and mix until just combined — you don’t want to overmix.
    4. Spread the remaining 1/3 cup sugar onto a shallow plate. Form balls out of the cookie dough 2 inches in diameter and roll them through the sugar. Arrange on a cookie sheet 4 inches apart — these spread!
    5. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until just the edges are golden. The tops of the cookies should remain pale. Cool completely on the cookie sheets before removing to a plate.

  • ICE CREAM! I have a stand mixer that I adore. It was passed down from my mom when I got married. Unfortunately, it’s on its last leg. My ice cream attachment will no longer work because the bearings are so far off center that the beater won’t stay connected to the head. It’s tragic. I’m going to have a hard time letting my old faithful friend go, but I suppose I might be able to ease my sorrows with a batch of homemade ice cream from a new shiny Kitchen Aid.

I won’t be making anything with this mixer, because if I win, I will be giving it to my sister, whose current KA is slowly dying. With 5 kids, she really can’t be mixer-less. I was gifted with a new KA when mine died in an act of generous kindness (by people who knew that my household of 9 required a professional model KA) , and I look forward to the opportunity to pay it forward.

BUT, knowing my sister, I’d venture a guess that chocolate chip cookies would be a definite first-bake on her list. 🙂

I would definitely make a batch of meringues. I’ve given up sweets for Lent, and lately, I’ve been craving plain, crunchy, sweet, pillowy meringues. They’re quite possibly a perfect food. 😛

I would definitely make some bread. It would be nice to finally be able to make it on my own, without running to DH to knead it for me. 😀 lol I’ve been wanting to buy one, but my pocket book would be quite unhappy. This is such a great giveaway! Wonderful!

  • I would gift this mixer to my mom, as she still uses her 40-or-more year old mixer, which is really needing it’s retirement and I would request her to make my grandma’s hershey bar pie with it for it’s first use. (And then I would bring my own pasta attachments and would offer to make her fresh pasta using her new mixer while dessert is setting.)

  • Danielle

I’d made chocolate chip cookie dough cupcakes also! Been planning to make them ever since I saw the recipe.

Oooooooooooh I need one of these. I’m stuck in the wooden spoon age, but it’s coming to an end since I only have 1.5 spoons left (my roommates have burned, broken and shredded them in the blender). The first thing I’d make is a coconut cake with meringue icing!!!!! Can’t wait!

  • The first thing I’d make with my new mixer is cupcakes for my family’s Easter dinner! I find fancy cupcakes to be such an infatuation of mine but so hard to make since I don’t own a mixer!!

  • I would use it to make all the cupcakes for my cousin’s baby shower. I’m dreading the idea of doing so many cupcakes with a hand mixer…ahhhh (hehe) Thank you for the opportunity!!

  • I “like” you in FB! You have an awesome blog and I cannot wait to try some of your recipes!
