Buttermilk Pecan Pie

This week’s Project Pastry Queen challenge was selected by Mariana of Food Junky: Buttermilk Pecan Pie.

I’ll be blunt. Had this recipe not been part of Project Pastry Queen, I wouldn’t have posted it. But we post the good, bad, and the ugly! Of the ~50 recipes I’ve made from the book, this is only the second one that just wasn’t my thing. I didn’t dig the texture of the filling or the lack of sweetness. It was definitely my brother and his girlfriend’s thing. (Of course, their biggest complaint about our usual pecan pie is that it’s too sweet. )

I did, however, dig the recipe for pie crust. Since making it with the banana cream pie, it has become my new go-to pie crust. It’s all kinds of flaky! I served the pie with whipped cream and strawberry sauce.

Next week, it’s my turn to host Project Pastry Queen and, surprise! I’ve picked a Mexican-ish dish: Gulf Coast Shrimp Quesadillas.

  • I wasn’t a fan either. 🙁 It was crumbly and weird and not gooey like pecan pie should be. Your photo is beautiful as always though!

It still looks amazingly delicious! Through your project I was inspired to buy this cookbook, and I can’t wait to get it and cook some of the delicious stuff in there.

  • I did like it a lot, made it by itself and made it again yesterday with a pumpkin layer, it was amazing! Although I still think my Tita’s Pecan Pie is the best ever!

Love your picture, wish mine were as good… but anyways, the post is up if you wanna check it out =P!

    (dying to make those quesadillas!)

  • Looking forward to the shrimp quesadilla recipe!

  • Even if you didn’t care for it, you make it look so good in that picture. <3 Truthfully, I gathered all the ingredients to make this on Friday for a girls' night, but, after reading some other people's posts about it.. I got scared no one would enjoy it. (Everyone I know has a big sweet tooth, except for my friend Carol… who hates nuts. lol) I'll definitely be trying the pie crust in the future, though!

This pecan pie recipe looks very promising especially when you look at the photo. I think his would be perfect for my dessert later. But i will use vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup for its garnish. thank you very much
