I go through lots of vanilla beans each year. I make homemade vanilla extract for myself and our Christmas gift baskets. And I love to add the scrapings of a vanilla pod to every non-chocolate dessert that calls for vanilla extract. Everything tastes better when it’s studded with those pretty little flecks of vanilla bean π

I would make homemade vanilla, I have been wanting to make it for so long. And then I would scrape the vanilla beans and make vanilla ice cream… yum!

I definitely want to try making vanilla extract! Plus I’d make all the vanilla ice cream and vanilla pudding I can handle. There’s even a great butternut squash soup recipe from Orangette that uses vanilla bean! I’ll put it in everything I can, just watch.

If I had a half-pound of vanilla beans, I would make vanilla extract for myself & as gifts; I would make vanilla buttercream frosting for Christmas cookies and save the rest for 2012 baking.

I’ve started adding vanilla beans to my decorated sugar cookies and it has really enhanced the flavor of the cookies! That’s what I would be doing with them! Oh and I really want to try and make my own vanilla extract!

i absolutely love vanilla, i buy huge jars in mexico for cheap. never used vanilla beans, so the possibilities would be endless. but id love to scrape out the seeds and just see little flecks in my baking….

Oh, yes please!! With half a pound of vanilla beans I’d definitely try making some homemade extract and I’d finally get around to trying loads of recipes that call for vanilla beans! I can never find them in stores around here so I often have to made do in recipes by simply adding more vanilla extract! What I wouldn’t do for some little flecks of bean in my desserts!

I was definitely planning on making homemade vanilla extract for Christmas gifts this year as well! However, I don’t really want to put them in my checked baggage as I fly home for Christmas, so I would have to only make those for coworkers, not family. Option 2: The best vanilla bean soft yummy cookies ever! So much better with vanilla bean instead of extract!
