Homemade Cranberry Sauce

Whole berry Cranberry Sauce

One of my most favorite holiday sides growing up was Ocean Spray Jellied Cranberry Sauce. You know the kind – the ruby-red cylinder of solid jelly that came pre-marked with it’s “just slice here” ridges from the can. It made a distinct noise as it wiggled free and slid from the can. A jiggly wedge tops every single bite of my holiday dinners.

It’s extremely easy to make a really good cranberry sauce at home. I like mine spiked with a bit of orange but if you’re more of a purist, replace the OJ with water and leave out the zest and ginger.

Orange-Cranberry Sauce

Homemade cranberry sauce spiked with orange juice and fresh ginger is the perfect addition to your holiday dinner table.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 small orange, zested and juiced
  • 2/3 cup sugar (plus more to taste)
  • 12-16 oz cranberries
  • 1/2 - 1 tsp fresh ginger, peeled and grated

Instructions

  1. Add water, OJ, and sugar to a saucepan over medium heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved.
  2. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 15 minutes.
  4. Cool completely before serving. Leftovers will keep in a jar in the fridge for at least a week.
