Tequila and vanilla – that’s this Texican’s entire shopping list 🙂
We leave for the Caribbean this Friday for a week-long, drywall dust-free vacation and will be stopping in what I consider my “Food Motherland” (Mexico) for a couple of days. We’re hoping to squeeze in a trip to a specialty shop or grocery store in the Yucatan for goodies to bring home. If you’ve got recommendations on items, specific brands, or restaurants (Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, and Progresso) I’m all ears!
Is it weird that I’m excited about a little light grocery shopping on vacation? I don’t think so 🙂
No recommendations, unfortunately. Any Mexican ingredients I know can be had in my Logan Square neighborhood here in Chicago. But I totally understand you getting jazzed about grocery shopping in a new place. For me, it’s art. Not just major museums, but little galleries. Well, that and local music, preferably as played in little clubs and bars.
first of all, that cupcake looks like bliss…vanilla and tequila was my shopping list for our trip to mexico too!!! grab a bag of the spicy cheetos too if you can find them….kind of gross, but so good! have fun!
Dulce de leche!
Terry B – Same here. I’m in Houston and we have Carniceria’s in every corner strip center. I can’t think of too much else to buy that I wouldn’t be able to get here. But I’m going to look hard!
Rachel – thanks! That cupcake was bliss – perfect cure for a Cinco de Mayo hangover 🙂
Mallow – It’s now on the list 🙂 We’re also going to try to hit up this little bakery a friend rec’d.
Definitely the Chapas Coffee Beans in Cozumel – very yummy! There is Chapas store up the street from the ferry dock that you can find it cheaper than in the coffee stores. Comes in various cute containers and the coffee is excellent!
Sounds delicious! I just came back from mexico last month and find myself addicted to these incredible enchilada recipes now!! Must go back next year sometime, I suppose, and this time head off of the beaten track a little. Looking to reading more!
